Can’t Sleep

Already I can’t sleep as I think about our launch Sunday! Jenni and I laid down to take a nap today (after doing some yard work) and all I could think about was next Sunday and what God is going to do!

As I think about it, I just keep asking Him to show up. It doesn’t really matter if I preach a great sermon, or if our band comes off flawlessly. What matters is that the God of the universe shows up and turns a movie theater into a holy place! If you are praying for us, this would be the one thing that I ask you to pray for – that God would show up – that His presence would ignite Epic Church!

Sermon Thought of the Week

As I’ve been preparing for this weeks sermon I’ve been thinking a lot about the things other people try to place on us that work for them but might not work for you. The passage I’m preaching from is in 1 Samuel and it’s about David fighting Goliath (a giant). At one point, Saul try’s to make David wear his armor and take his weapons. The problem is that the gear doesn’t fit David. Without over spiritualizing the text too much, I think there are a lot of people who will tell you what type of “Armor” you need to be wearing, when all along, God has uniquely designed you for the circumstances you are going through. David, it ends up, didn’t need the armor of Saul, he needed his reliance in God. Perhaps if Saul had relied more on God he wouldn’t have needed the armor as much either. Just a thought…

Easy Peasy

After this last sermon, I decided that sermons are not completely fair to the audience. My whole point was to not let fear quench the fire of God in you to do great things. The “not so fair” part of the whole thing, is that I come out sounding better than I am. I am still afraid all the time. It is a constant battle to not let the fear take hold and win.
I just don’t know that I did a good job letting people know that I have not conquered this or any other issue I have ever preached about. And so the old adage is said, it’s easier to talk it than to walk it. I suppose my job as a preacher is to never believe that I am the “Kent” in the 30 min. sound bite, my job is to know my weakness, own my weakness, and to point to Christ who is sufficient for all!

Slow Down

So, here’s the deal, this week and next I have a crazy schedule.� So I’m going to take a little break from blogging.� We’ll see, if I get a chance to get one in, I’ll try to.� Please be praying for Jenni and I.� We have youth group this week, our event in Andover, I preach next Sunday, then our final youth group, and we move on the 19th.� It’s gonna be crazy!

Wichita Trip

So, Jenni and I got back from our Wichita Trip.� We are both exhausted (on top of the late nights and long days of meetings, I had to preach Sunday).� The trip was awesome!� Again, I had the opportunity to meet with some phenomenal leaders.� I met with Jeff Isaacs of Riverlawn, Rick Wheeler of First Christian in Derby, Phil Smith of Countryside and then the director of the East YMCA.� All of that was on Thursday.� Overall the meetings were extremely positive, I look forward to working near these men and learning from them.

On Friday, I met with Paul Hill of Wheatland Mission.� We spent time with Todd from Metro East near Wichita.� Both of these guys are such kingdom minded men, it was good to sit and talk and learn.

I realized this morning when I woke up that we really only have 3 months left.� That’s getting crazy close!� Please keep praying with us about the support we need to raise!� Thanks!

Graduations and Travel

So, the last week, Jenni and I have been to Medicine Lodge, Pittsburg, back to Garden for me to Preach, back to Medicine Lodge, to Wichita, Derby, back to Medicine Lodge and then back to Garden again. It has been a crazy “Vacation”, but good to see family and let my mind relax!

With all the traveling I was so worried about my sermon on Sunday, but God really challenged me with some ideas and He came through. When I preach, I always feel like I am in a wrestling match with God trying to get Him to tell me what He would want me to say. It is always hard on the front end, but so fruitful on the back end.

Anyway, it was so fun to be able to spend all that time with Jenni – we got our missionary stuff done for camp and are just so excited about the future God is leading us into!

So that’s our update for now!
