I am considering the topic of surrender today. I believe that part of the call of Christ to His followers is to submit their free will to His will – in order that God might use you and I in the world to accomplish His purposes. If you and I are not experiencing growth in our Christian walk – if you don’t understand how to get intimacy with the Lord – if the bible is stale to you or your prayer life could be contained on a sticky note. Perhaps, just perhaps – you are not surrendering to the King of Kings – perhaps you are insisting He surrender to you. (Matthew 12:30) (Luke 12:49) (Matthew 10:34) (Luke 14:33)

The King is not pleased to only have half-hearted devotion. He wants all or none. This is a hard teaching. But it is in the surrender to the Christ that you find life… Stop waiting for things to get better and get down on your knees and start to turn your life over to the leadership of the King!

You see, I’m afraid that as a leader I can work on systems, creativity, relavancy, and so many other things and never let God lead. It is my hearts one desire that God would be the one who leads, that Christ would be the one who is glorified. That as leaders we would take on the humility and gentleness of Christ as we follow Him. It’s so easy to get this all switched around and miss the boat – so I’m going to do my best to keep my eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of my faith. How bout you?

Here are just a few things I’m thankful for this year:

  1. God’s immense love – no joke, I know it sounds corny, but lately I have thought a lot about where I would be if God had not brought me into a relationship with Him.
  2. Jenni – I am not that great of a husband and she is so loving, forgiving and able to push me just right.
  3. Peter – baby smiles, need I say more.
  4. Our friends and family.
  5. Those folks who are supporting Epic Church through prayer and finances.  Jenni and I have been taking stock of just how many people are making this thing happen.  It’s incredible!
  6. My Grandma for letting Jenni and I live with her for the past 6 months or so.
  7. Pecan pie!
  8. Bible Christian Church – for being so faithful and allowing us to make this move into church planting with their blessing!
  9. Disposable diapers (You know you’re secretly thankful too).
  10. Our youth at BCC – they are honestly the best teens I know!

Anyway, that’s some of what I’m thankful for this year.  How bout you?
