Jenni and I had a really good Thanksgiving! We went to Medicine Lodge and hung out with her family. It was a blast to spend time with family and just relax.

Today is a Good Day!

Today is the day that I celebrate the joining with the most important person in my life! Today is Jenni and I’s anniversary.

BEWARE: Below is a personal note to Jenni – if you don’t like the mushy gushy stuff, read a different post…

Jenni, I love you so much! It seems like my love for you grows every day and in new places in my heart that I didn’t know existed. Thank you for being such a great mom for our children, such a patient wife for your husband, and such a spiritual inspiration when life has sucked it all out of me! I hope you know how much of a treasure you are to me and I can’t wait to grow old with you and in your arms! I love you so much!

and PS – I love that you want to go to a Thunders game for our Anniversary – seriously the coolest wife ever!!!

Garage Sale Fun

Jenni and I are having a garage sale today and tomorrow (if you need any little boy clothes from newborn to 4T – don’t look anywhere else). Anyway, it makes me think of all the stuff in my life that is just junking it up and how badly I need a good spring (or fall) cleaning. Pastors have just as many issues as normal people, we are just good at hiding them! Hah. My hope is to not hide but to expose and to clean house. I want to know Christ better than I do, I want to get rid of my anger and hurtful attitudes. I want to really follow Jesus wholeheartedly.

PS – if you want to stop by and see Jenni and I we would love to have some visitors, here’s the directions to our house:

Go North on Andover Rd. just past 21st Street (Look for signs). There is a new housing addition called Cornerstone. You turn Left into this entrance (if you go past it you’ll be on your way into the country). Turn right when you see the model homes (They have white fence in front of them), stay on this road, it will wind and curve, it will eventually turn into Slate St. Our house is towards the end on the right (802 W. Slate, Andover, KS. 67002).

The Great Depression Part 2?

It seems like I know more and more people who are asking the question, “how much worse can it get?” I personally don’t know, and am not really qualified to even comment on our current economic status. I do know that my wife and I have felt the pinch just like a lot of our friends are feeling it. One of my chief concerns in times like these is that the church does not over spiritualize circumstances, but that we would neither downplay the significance of being spiritual and only focus on the physical needs. This is a crucial moment in our history. We will forge a future, the question is, will it be one that it is forged on fear or on hope?
I say we have a hope that is greater than the movement in the dow jones, we have a calling that is deeper than the recession – as Hebrews 10:39 says, “But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.” My faith is not in the economic, political, scientific system. My faith is in the creator of the universe, who with one swift breath could breathe mud into a man (see the beginning of Genesis).

Easter Egg Hunt a Huge Success!!

Yesterday, we had over 700 people show up at our Easter Egg Hunt! It was a blast! Kids jumped around on the moon bounces, got their faces painted like bunnies, and got to meet the Easter Bunny. We gave out 12,000 pieces of candy and honestly could have probably done more. We gave away a Wii, iPod’s, a bike, and a ton of other prizes!

All in all it was a hugely successful event!� (Pictures to come soon)

We also learned a few things that will hopefully make next years Hunt even better! I can’t wait to do it again!

Next week we are having our family picnic in the park – it’s Sat. at 11:30 in the 13th st. Park.� We are having burgers and hotdogs, drinks and chips!� I can’t wait to see everyone there!� Click here for more info on next weeks picnic!

The Fundraising Struggle

It is not an easy thing to raise money.� Hah, I know this revelation probably finds you with your mouth wide open and scratching your head, but it’s true.� Raising money is a hard thing to do, especially when the only thing you have to offer is a vision of what the future will look like.� At the end of the day, what people are investing in is you, not the idea.� Sure, they love the idea – or else they wouldn’t even consider it – but at the end of the day you are the one who has to execute the vision.

I have been blessed by so many friends, family and organizations who have placed their trust in Jenni and I and our ability to follow God as He unfolds His work in Andover.� I realize that the struggle I face is one they face as well.� We are partners in this mission to see people reached who are far from God.� I hope that each person who is financially backing Epic Church knows that I will do whatever it takes to reach those people – I will become all things to all men that I might reach them!

The struggle is not really one of finances or selling your vision.� The struggle is really to be a person of integrity and honesty – to be trustworthy.� I want for people to look at me and say, “I believe that he is invested enough in the Kingdom that he will really pull this off!”

So, the questions I have to ask myself:

Are you hungering for the word of God?
Are you spending real time in the word?
Are you being faithful to your wife?
Are you being a great dad to your children?
Are you making friends with people who are far from God?
Who are you investing in?
Who is investing in you?

Answering these questions right will continue to turn me into the kind of man people will want to give to and support.

I just returned from Joplin and it’s crazy late.

I am excited about the things God is doing!� I had a great meeting today with Robin Sigars, Drew Ashwell, Kevin & Courtney (potential staff) and the 4 State Men’s Group.� I have been meeting like crazy the last 4 days and it really all seems like a blur,� but the one constant in all the meetings has been just how much God is in what we are doing. Tonight while presenting to the 4 State Men’s Group I found out that one of the gentlemen there was from Derby and had pastored a church there.� Fifteen years ago he was commissioned to study Andover for a possible church plant and felt like there needed to be one there.� The group he was with ended up choosing to plant somewhere else but he said he always hoped that a plant would go in Andover.� He said, “It’s amazing how God does things He brings the right people on board when it’s the right time!”� I couldn’t agree more.� God is definitely bringing about something amazing – my prayer tonight was that He would stretch me into the leader I need to be in order to keep up with His steps!
