Grand Opening Month Starts Tomorrow!!!

Can’t Sleep

Already I can’t sleep as I think about our launch Sunday! Jenni and I laid down to take a nap today (after doing some yard work) and all I could think about was next Sunday and what God is going to do!

As I think about it, I just keep asking Him to show up. It doesn’t really matter if I preach a great sermon, or if our band comes off flawlessly. What matters is that the God of the universe shows up and turns a movie theater into a holy place! If you are praying for us, this would be the one thing that I ask you to pray for – that God would show up – that His presence would ignite Epic Church!

Rocked the Trial Run

Today was our first time setting up at the Warren for a Trial run of Epic Church – and seriously, it rocked!
Our team set up and tore down in record time and our band could go toe to toe with just about anybody when it comes to musical talent! It’s an amazing thing to dream about something for 2 or more years and to now see it start to take form and shape in reality!
All I kept thinking today was how amazing God is and how I still am not sure how everything got pulled together. What a cool ride to get to be on!

Church in a Theatre!

I’m proud to announce that Epic Church will be holding services at the 13th Ave. Warren Theatre beginning in September 09!� We will be having several sneak peaks that you can come and check out so keep coming back to see when those will take place!� The people at the Warren are great and it will be our pleasure to rent from them!

Dooo Dooo Do

Humming along at Panera this morning. Working fast and furious, when all of the sudden a noise not dissimilar to that of a tornado siren broke the silence. It pierced ears, shattered glasses and made small children cry. Actually, most people just looked up from their cup of coffee or newspaper and looked around with stares of confussion tinted with perterbedness (think I just made that word up). The employees just stood around. I decided to watch and see if people would leave or stay. I wanted to see the effect.
The sound went on for a good 2 minutes. Surely long enough for one patron to leave. Nothing. Finally, the manager got up and fixed the problem and saved the day.
What was interesting to me, was that no one left. Everyone went right back to their coffee, papers and conversations. So, here’s the take away for me. People will put up with subpar performance if it’s a fluke. They will even put up with it to the point of it being excruciating. The reality is – this Panera provides a quality service every time – so when people hit a bump in the performance – they know it’s not the norm.
I want Epic Church to have a culture like this Panera. I want people to see the things we do as quality services offered – so much so that when we have an occasionally hiccup, people know that it’s nothing more than that – a hiccup. I know this doesn’t come easy. It takes a lot of deliberate action on our part and a lot of hard work. But I believe we can make a difference in the lives of people in ways that will affect generations to come – and for that, I’m willing to give it all!!

Peter’s Sick

I was thinking about my poor baby Peter. He’s sick, and is having to take breathing treatments to help him breathe better. The thing that is really hard about this is that he doesn’t understand what’s going on. He pushes the apparatus away and doesn’t want anything over his face. I wish there was a way for me to help him understand, to explain it to him.

I sometimes think this is the reason Jesus came to the earth and put on the skin of a man. We were hurting and broken – separated from God and in need of some sort of ultimate treatment. So, in order to communicate the extent of Gods love for us, Jesus became a man, spoke our language, showed us how to live a life that was without wrongdoing and then applied the ultimate salve for our souls. His blood for ours. This is the essence of the gospel. That God, loved us so much that He sent His one and only son to die in our place – the righteous for the unrighteous.

That’s the power of the cross, that’s the good news that we proclaim. And that is why we are planting Epic Church – because our God went first and stepped out to build a relationship with us!
