How Jesus is challenging me…

So, I'm reading Luke 15 this morning and asking myself some questions: 1. Where & with whom do I spend most of my time? Jesus launches into telling 3 parables about searching for what was lost after the Pharisees start to mutter about him welcoming sinners and eating with them. God is really challenging me [...]

Romans

I am really enjoying preaching through the book of Romans, it has been really challenging to me.  One of the things that I am not going to be covering in my sermon but I thought I would point out is Romans 2:12-16.  The idea is that God’s law is the standard by which all people [...]

Children & Family Ministry

Just got off the phone with a really good friend, we were chatting about children's ministry in churches. God is really doing something with us at Epic that I think is going to be different than what any other church is doing! As we talked, he's a leader in the area of children's ministry, it [...]

Exhausted…

Boy, I never thought I would look forward to Monday coming…  But, today has been exhausting – good, but exhausting!  We had several people at church make the decision to just let Jesus heal them, that’s cool when people give up their brokenness to find wholeness in Jesus!  I’m looking forward to seeing how I [...]

Faith or Belief

Just thinking about the difference between faith and belief (not that there should be a firm line drawn between the two), but one of the core differences in our language is that belief simply denotes an intellectual acceptance of an idea. It does not denote an action that must be taken out of that belief. [...]

Is there any evidence that Jesus existed outside the bible?

The answer is yes!  While I was studying for an upcoming sermon I came across the following website: http://www.probe.org/site/c.fdKEIMNsEoG/b.4223639/k.567/Ancient_Evidence_for_Jesus_from_NonChristian_Sources.htm I wanted to pass this along because I think there is a sense in Christianity that the bible is the only reference we have to the existence of Jesus.  It did great things for my faith [...]

Fulfillment of Prophecy by Jesus

I found the following on Biblestudy.org about prophecies Jesus fulfilled while I was studying for my sermon on Romans 1:2-3, enjoy! Which Old Testament prophecies did Jesus FULFILL? The Lineage of Jesus Prophecy: Seed of a woman Old Testament Reference: Genesis 3:14-15 New Testament Fulfillment: Galatians 4:4 “So the Lord God said to the serpent: [...]

The Power of Smell

Wow, I’m sitting here doing some study on the 1st Chapter of Romans with the windows open and had a smell from outside that took me straight back to being a 3rd grader, riding my bike around my neighborhood in Topeka. It’s crazy how smells can trigger such powerful memories.

Take a break…

If you are like me, you probably have something or someone constantly calling for your attention. Sometimes, the best thing we can do for others is to get off and recoup, to seek God, to pray, to listen. Maybe today, on your way home from work you could shut off the radio. Maybe tonight you [...]
