So, below you will find an ad that ran on the internet created by the good people at Motrin:
This is a great example of a seemingly good idea gone bad.
Good idea = marketing via the internet
Bad idea = poking fun at your target audience
As I watch this video, it reminds me that the internet (as far as an oranization is concerned) is a beautiful thing when it is going your way, but when it’s not – watch out… The masses have a voice that must be heard and if you offend the masses – you better watch out.
I guess this ad was the #2 most posted item on Twitter – #2 after Christmas… Can you imagine.
I have always compared the internet to the old west – it’s a place where there is very little in the way of law and everyone is a pioneer. This whole deal with Motrin is the modern day lynching – it’s as if moms all over the web said, “Get a Rope.”
The moral of the story: Be careful what you say, it may come back and be a big pain in the neck that not even motrin and fix…

I have heard of churches experiencing this same type of lynching. It is probably more closely related to Cyber Bullying though. Someone gets disgruntled with them and they get online and ruin their credibility in the online community.
