Why Andover & East Wichita Kansas? Wichita is the largest city in the state of Kansas. Andover is a suburb located right up against the east side of the city.
-According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Wichita’s population is 361,420
-The U.S. Census Bureau estimates population of Kansas in 2006 to have been 2,764,075.
In Andover, the statistics break down this way: if you take the population of Andover and divide it into churches, there would be 900 people to every 1 church in existence. The average church in America has an attendance of 186 - this number is inflated by really large churches. If you do the math that means that the churches of Andover and the surrounding area are only reaching 20.6% of their population. That’s about 2 out of every 10 people. Most likely there are a number of people traveling to Wichita to attend church each week. It is considerable that there is upwards of another 20% of the population traveling outside of Andover to attend church. This still leaves nearly 60% of the community untouched by the church.
Factor in the fact that Wichita is expected to envelope Andover in the coming years as it continues to expand east and west (the projection are 20,000 more people on that side of town). As that expansion happens, that percentage of untouched people in the community is bound to worsen if there is not an influx of new churches.
